Chocolate Chip Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 3 tablespoons light brown
  • sugar
  • 1 package (18.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 2 eggs

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 9- by 13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. In a small bowl, combine the chocolate chips, pecans and brown sugar; mix well and set aside. In a large bowl, with an electric beater on medium speed, beat the cake mix, butter and eggs until thoroughly combined (the mixture will be stiff). Stir half of the nut mixture into the batter and spread over the bottom of the baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining nut mixture over the batter and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely, then cut into bars and serve.

Makes 15 to 18 servings
