Bread & Butter Pickles

Ingredients

  • 6 quarts sliced medium cucumbers
  • 6 medium white onions, sliced thin
  • generous 5 tbsp. pickling salt
  • 5 cups sugar
  • 3 cups cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. tumeric
  • 2 tsp. celery seed
  • 2 tbsp. mustard seed

Directions

Do not pare cucumbers; slice thin. Add sliced onions and mix. Add salt and combine well. Cover with cracked ice and mix thoroughly. Let stand three hours; drain well.

Combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to a boil. Seal in hot, sterilized jars.

Process in boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
