Ingredients
- 1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 egg
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
- 2 tsp. soda
- 2 c. flour
- 1 c. apple butter
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. all spice
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 c. pecans
Directions
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Combine buttermilk and soda. Combine flour and spices. Add alternately with buttermilk beginning and ending with flour. Stir in apple butter and pecans. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until wooden pick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pan for 5 minutes; remove to wire rack and cool completely.
Makes 1 loaf.

Ingredients
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsps. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup applesauce, natural/unsweetened
- 1/2 cup canola oil
- 3 tbls. milk
- 2 eggs
Directions
Makes 1 loaf. Recipe is by Stephanie Riegel and Tracey Koch.
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
2. In large bowl of electric mixer, stir together dry ingredients.
3. Add applesauce, oil, milk and eggs.
4. Beat at medium speed until ingredients are blended. Pour into greased loaf pan and bake for 1 hour, or until knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
(We suggest doubling the recipe and making a couple of loaves at a time. They make great gifts!)

Ingredients
- 2 c. all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. allspice
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/4 c. sweetened applesauce
- 3 tbsp. milk
- 1/2 c. coarsely chopped pecans
- TOPPING:
- 1/4 c. chopped pecans
- 1/4 c. packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Directions
Sift flour with baking soda, baking powder, salt and spices. Combine sugar, oil, applesauce, eggs and milk. Add sifted dry ingredients and nuts. Pour batter into greased 9″x5″x3″ loaf pan. Mix topping ingredients thoroughly and sprinkle over batter. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 to 1 1/4 hours. (Stove temperatures differ – you may need 350 degrees.) Crunchy outside, moist inside, makes a perfect gift bread.

Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tbls. vanilla
- 1 tbl. cinnamon
- 1 tbl. nutmeg
- 2 scant tsps. baking soda
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Directions
1. Grease and flour 2 loaf pans.
2. In large bowl of electric mixer, cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Add in applesauce and vanilla.
3. Add spices and soda to flour and slowly add to sugar mixture. When well blended, stir in raisins and nuts.
4. Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 30-45 minutes or until a tester inserted in center of cake comes out clean.
Makes 2 loaf cakes.

Ingredients
- 1/2 c. melted butter
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. applesauce
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon or nutmeg, mixed with flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)
- 1/2 c. raisins (optional)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugar in large bowl. Beat in 1 egg at a time. Stir in applesauce and vanilla. Add remaining ingredients and stir by hand until well blended. Pour mixture into a 9×5 inch loaf pan, greased on bottom and corners only. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool before slicing. Note: Mixture can be divided into smaller loaf pans to make gift size individual bread loaves. Bake shorter time until toothpick comes out clean.
