Ingredients
- 1/2 cup A&W Root Beer
- 4 strips bacon
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 15-ounce cans pinto beans, drained
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons chili powder or to taste
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook bacon in small frying
pan until crisp; cool and crumble. Reserve 1 tablespoon
bacon drippings. Saute onion and garlic in reserved drippings
over medium heat for 10 minutes or until translucent.
Place bacon, onion, garlic, and remaining ingredients
in a 2-quart casserole dish; stir until blended.
Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until
done.
Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients
- 5 cups chicken broth
- 1 1/4 cups uncooked quick-cooking grits*
- 1/2 (8-ounce) block extra-sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded (about 1 cup)
- 1/2 (8-ounce) block Monterey Jack cheese, shredded (about 1 cup)
- 1/4 cup whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
- 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
Directions
Bring chicken broth to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Gradually whisk in grits; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes or until thickened. Stir in Cheddar cheese, next 5 ingredients, and, if desired, Worcestershire sauce, stirring until cheese melts. Remove from heat, and stir in eggs.
Pour grits into a lightly greased 2-quart or 11- x 8-inch baking dish.
Bake, uncovered, at 350º for 40 to 45 minutes or until golden and set.
*Stone-ground grits may be substituted. Increase liquid to 6 cups, and increase cook time to 50 minutes.
Note: For testing purposes only, we used White Lily Quick Grits.
Yield: Makes 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients
- 16 oz can pork and beans, drained
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 small onion, chopped
- 2 strips of bacon, chopped
- 1/3 cup barbecue sauce
- 1 tart apple, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
- 1 tbsp raisins, optional
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 1 quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Mix all ingredients together and pour in baking dish. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

Ingredients
- 1 quart cooked green beans
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 10 slices bacon, fried crisp and crumbled
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup bacon grease
Directions
Sauté onion in bacon grease. Place beans (preferably large flat type beans that can be from a can) and all other ingredients in a medium saucepan.
Simmer 10 minutes for the flavors to blend. Add crumbled bacon; stir and serve.
